Modern Foreign Language

Spanish

What is MFL?

MFL stands for Modern Foreign Language, and is the study of any language, aside from English, which is spoken today and that is used in different countries around the world. In our school we learn Spanish.

Why do we learn a modern foreign language?

Learning a modern foreign language helps us to communicate, develops our knowledge of other cultures, deepens our understanding of the world and provides us with new ways of thinking.

MFL - (at Park Hill we teach Spanish) is only taught in KS2 - years 3 - 6.

In our primary school, we believe that learning Spanish opens up a world of opportunities for our students! Through engaging activities, we immerse our young learners in the rich culture and vibrant language of Spanish-speaking countries. Our lessons focus on building essential vocabulary, pronunciation, and conversational skills, all while fostering a love for language learning. By encouraging creativity and collaboration, we help students develop confidence in their abilities to communicate in Spanish. Together, we embark on this exciting journey to explore new cultures, make connections, and prepare for a global future!  During year 4 in particular, our children become immersed in the cultures of Spanish speaking  Mexico as well as Spain in their geography units. They also read 'Toro! Toro!' by Michael Morpurgo, a story about bullfighting, set during the Spanish civil war.
