RE
What is RE?
RE is the study of world religions, cultures as well as Non-Religious Worldviews.
Why do we learn about RE?
RE helps us to gain an understanding of the range of beliefs and values across the world. It also improves our knowledge and understanding of the world while building a cohesive community.
At Park Hill Primary School, we follow the Birmingham Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education.
As well as learning from and about religions in discreet RE lessons, we also develop themes in assemblies and, for children in years 2 to 6, through opportunities to visit places of worship. The normal schedule of visits are listed below.
Our visits allow us to take the learning of faiths from the classroom into the settings that are so important to some of the many different faiths and beliefs that make up our wonderful city. They allow us to ask questions and gain first-hand experiences of religious buildings to develop our understanding. Although we do not take part in the rituals or practices of the different beliefs when attending on an educational visit, we might be lucky enough to witness how believers take part in prayers, celebrations or services.
Schools have a statutory duty to teach RE but parents can withdraw their children for all or part of the lessons.
